I was born in Portland, Oregon. After that I lived in Vancouver, going to the Vancouver Public Schools and graduating from Hudson’s Bay High School in 1973. After that I attended Clark College in Vancouver, where I graduated in 1974. Then it was an undergraduate degree (BA) in Secondary Education at George Fox University in Newberg, Oregon, in 1976, and a Doctor of Jurisprudence (JD) at Willamette University College of Law in Salem, Oregon, in 1979.
I became a member of the Washington State Bar Association in 1979 and began the practice of law in Vancouver that same year. I have continued to live and work in Vancouver, concentrating on the representation of injured people by practicing in the areas of Social Security disability and Washington State Worker’s Compensation. Marla Heikkala and Associates was established in 1997.
I am very committed to providing service to my community, and have served on various boards and commissions for such organizations as the Vancouver Chamber of Commerce, George Fox University, Southwest Washington Medical Center, and the Washington Association for Justice.
